Young Southland player a rising star on the field
She already boasts a wealth of representative experience.
The Central Southland College pupil has represented Southland in touch for the past four years.
She captained the under-15 girls team to second place in last years South Island tournament, plays in the under-19 mixed team and in April she will co-captain the South Island girls under-15 team to a tournament in Wellington.
While for most, touch is a social summer game, Kirsty has the competitive edge and it has been well rewarded through her plethora of selections in Southland teams.
%26quot;Yeah, Im quite competitive,%26quot; she said, laughing.
%26quot;Its hard training, so you have to go out to win.%26quot; Central Southland College does not have a year 9 and 10 touch team that plays regularly, so the only touch experience Kirsty is enjoying is with her Southland teams — though there is plenty of that to keep her fit.
Kirsty got a rare run with the Central Southland College mixed touch team in Sundays secondary schools competition.
While the team didnt make the final, which was eventually won by Menzies College, Kirsty did get to captain the team, which she enjoyed.
Kirsty is aiming to one day represent New Zealand at touch, and is looking forward to putting in a good performance as co-captain of the South Island team at the April tournament.
%26quot;Ill just go out there, have a good time but play hard to win,%26quot; she said.
At Sundays tournament, hosted by Central Southland College, Southland Boys High School won the boys section and Southland Girls won the girls section.
