Young Southlanders get spot on team

The teenagers secured their place in the team after the last qualifying event, at the Johnstones Outram property, last month. They will be joined by Wakatipu High School student Anna Nesbitt, riding Claude Monet, to make up the three DC section riders.
For Casey Swain and her horse Henry Rudd it is a case of continuing a family tradition. Her older sister Hollie rode the 16-year-old thoroughbred at the championships in 2004 and 2005 before she took over the ride.
At 15, Casey was no stranger to competitive riding, recording innumerable successes in the show ring as well as being a member of the Waikaia pony club Springston Trophy team for the last two years.
Edendales Anna Poole would also be making her first appearance at champs, riding her talented hack China Arrow.
The three-day championships, which attracts teams from throughout the country to compete in dressage, cross country and show jumping, will be held in Nelson from April 24 to 26.
The team is A1: Cameron Scarlett, of Cromwell, Kelly Burnett, of Dunedin, Charles Miller-Brown, of Queenstown. DC: Casey Swain, of Gore, Anna Poole, of Edendale, and Anna Nesbitt, of Queenstown.
