Bill To Repeal State Landscaping Services Tax Introduced
Legislation to repeal Michigan’s new 6 percent tax on services is surfacing in the Capitol as business gears up efforts to kill the tax.The tax landscaping services, which will apply to 57 categories of services and will affect about 16,000 businesses, is a key part of the fiscal 2008 state budget deal reached recently by lawmakers landscaping services. Acciavatti said the reforms and cuts in the budget agreement are not as extensive as they should be and more taxes will hurt, rather than help landscaping services, Michigan’s economy. The services tax and income tax combined make up about $1.36 billion in tax increases that go toward resolving Michigan’s $1.75 billion projected deficit landscaping services.
Acciavatti’s bill comes as some 60 business representatives, including association and company officials landscaping services, met in Lansing on Tuesday to form a coalition and discuss approaches to killing the new services tax.As Crain’s reported in this week’s issue landscaping services, business will pay about 74 percent of the tax, through the levy on occupations that include consulting, office administration landscaping services, warehousing and storage, and security system, packaging and labeling, janitorial and landscaping services.In all, business-to-business services will generate an estimated $453 million of the nearly $614 million raised by the 6 percent tax in its first landscaping services, 10-month year, which will run from Dec landscaping services.
