Mtsus Kanaskie Makes Preseason All Sbc Third Team
 MOBILE, Ala. — MTSU basketball head coach Kermit Davis is impressed with the All-Sun Belt Team.He’s so impressed with the team that he said the 15 players on the team make up the deepest pool of talent in the conference since he’s been at MTSU.
“It’s a very talented group,†Davis said of the all-conference team as selected by Sun Belt coaches. “It’s the most talented group since I’ve been here.â€MTSU junior guard Kevin Kanaskie made the third team. Last season Kanaskie became the first player in program in history to lead the squad in points (12.2 per game), 3-pointers made (67) and assists (185) in the same season.Of the 15 players to earn preseason all-conference honors 10 are seniors. The Preseason Player of the Year is New Orleans senior guard Bo McCalebb, who was sixth in the country last season with 25 points per game.
He was New Orleans’ leading rebounder last season with 6.6 rebounds per game.McCalebb is New Orleans’ all-time leading scorer with 1,937 points and is fifth in Sun Belt history in scoring. Last year he was the only player in the SBC to be ranked in the top 10 in scoring, rebounding and assists.“It’s definitely a senior-dominated team,†Davis said. “You’re nominated by what you’ve done.â€Joining McCalebb on the first team are Arkansas State senior guard Adrian Banks, Florida Atlantic junior forward Carlos Monroe, South Alabama senior guard Demetric Bennett and Western Kentucky senior guard/forward Courtney Lee.Banks averaged 21.1 points per game last season, which was second in the SBC. Monroe averaged 18.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game last season.
Bennett averaged 15.5 points per game and 5.5 boards a contest. Lee, a two-time first-team all-SBC selection, averaged 17.3 points per game last season.The second team includes: Florida International junior forward Alex Galindo, UL-Lafayette senior guard David Dees, UL-Monroe junior guard Tony Hooper, Troy senior guard O’Darien Bassett and Western Kentucky senior guard Tyrone Brazelton.Galindo netted double figures 22 times last season.
Dees led the Ragin’ Cajuns in free-throw percentage, points per game, assists, steals and minutes. Hooper averaged 15.4 points per game last season. Bassett netted 15.1 points per game last season as a shooting guard and point guard. Brazelton netted 12.8 points per game last season.The third team includes: UL-Lafayette sophomore guard Elijah Millsaps, North Texas senior forward Quincy Williams, North Texas forward/center Keith Wooden and South Alabama guard Daon Merrit.Millsaps was the SBC Freshman of the Year last season. Williams netted 10.5 points and 7.1 boards per game last season. Merrit netted 12.7 points per game last season.
